Tomatoes and Live Music Celebrated at
Capay Organic on Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Silent auction and local wine sales to benefit sustainable agriculture non-profit

Tickets are now available for the second annual “Capay Tomato” heirloom tomato and live music celebration presented by Capay Organic and Farm Fresh To You. The event will be held at Capay Organic, a second-generation organic farm located thirty minutes Northwest of Davis, on Saturday, July 10th, from 5pm-11pm.  Tickets are $15 in advance, available by calling the Farm Fresh To You office at 800-796-6009. Tickets are available at the door for $20 and kids under 12 get in free. Camping sites in the stone fruit orchard are available for $30 by advance reservation.

The evening will celebrate heirloom tomato varieties grown on the farm with an informal tasting of 10+ varieties; guests will get a chance to vote for their favorite variety and dictate our next year’s planting. The mini-music festival will highlight Yolo County bluegrass, honky-tonk and rock bands with a line up including:

Mumbo Gumbo, The West Nile Ramblers and The Bottom Dwellers

Guests are encouraged to bring picnics to be considered for the second annual Best Capay Picnic competition – a picnic photographer will be scouring the farm for good grub and picnics will then be judged by a Farm Fresh To You panel. Other festivities include a gazpacho cooking demo, farm trailer rides, tomato harvesting and art activities will take place throughout the evening.

Farm fresh tacos will be available for purchase from Esparto-based taco truck “Tacos Jesus Maria”, who will be making tacos using the farm’s organic produce. Local wine from Capay Valley Vineyards will be poured at the event and homemade popsicles will also be available for purchase.

The Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture will be fundraising at the event via beverage sales and a silent auction featuring local artisan goods. Kathy founded Capay Organic and Farm Fresh To You – she was an innovative farmer and entrepreneur, and was loved by all who knew her. The non-profit was set up in her honor to promote sustainability. The non-profit’s 2010 scholarship recipient will be introduced at the event.
